Since I purchased my Leica and began exploring 35mm, ive been adapting my style to what feels right. Perhaps it’s the legacy of reportage and street photography that Leica has excelled, but Fine art style, pre raphelite images don’t feel quite right with this camera.
Holly was the perfect model for this photoshoot. I wanted to shoot a few different styles of portrait and Holly always makes sure she understands the feeling of the shoot and adapts perfectly.
For the first few images I wanted to have a reportage style, like there was a backstory to the ruined building. It was important that these where not beauty shoots or too stylised.
The following images where more fine art, but some have a more “portrait” flavour. I find it interesting how subtle gestures push and pull the images into fine art and back out again.
The final set where plain and simple portraits, they have the most honesty. There was very little expressive posing and are just the model presenting themselves to the camera. In the final images of this set I also wanted to try some portraits against sky. I think there could be a profound simplicity to this idea although it may need some development.
